Slovenia’s Culinary Elite Shine as Tomaž Kavčič Named Chef of the Year

Slovenia’s gastronomic scene celebrates its finest, with Tomaž Kavčič hailed as Chef of the Year, and Hiša Franko reaffirmed as the country’s best restaurant.

In a remarkable night for Slovenia’s culinary world, Tomaž Kavčič, the acclaimed chef behind the renowned Gostilna Pri Lojzetu, was named Chef of the Year at the 2025 Gault & Millau Slovenia awards.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Zemono Monastery near the western town of Vipava, Kavčič’s recognition caps off a year of culinary triumphs for the country.

Hiša Franko, led by the Michelin-starred Ana Roš, retained its position as Slovenia’s top dining destination, reaffirming its place in the gastronomic elite.

The restaurant, along with Gostilna Pri Lojzetu, was among 13 to receive Gault & Millau’s highest four-toke rating, a leap from last year’s numbers.

New entries to the top tier include Galerija Okusov, Mahorčič, and Repovž, highlighting the rising talent across the country.

In addition, Jure Brložnik’s Miza za Štiri was awarded Chef of the Future, while Primož Pintar’s Gostišče Tolc claimed the Chef of Tradition award.

With 31 restaurants earning three-toke distinctions, Slovenia’s culinary prowess continues to shine on the global stage.
