Atelje Lučka & Avgust, is marking the 40th anniversary of avant-garde pioneer Avgust Černigoj’s death with an exhibition titled Homage to Černigoj, opening on 15 October and running until 2 November. The show features 26 of his works, including pieces once gifted to cultural promoter Lučka Čehovin, after whom the gallery is partly named, alongside works by contemporary painter Duša Jesih.
Černigoj (1898–1985), the only Slovenian artist educated at Bauhaus, studied under Wassily Kandinsky before bringing constructivism and collage to Slovenia in the 1920s. His provocative, socially engaged art made him a central figure of the country’s historical avant-garde.
In addition to the exhibition, the gallery will host a lecture by theatre director Dragan Živadinov on 17 November, commemorating Černigoj’s influence on Slovenian modernism and his lasting impact on the region’s artistic identity.
