Hilton Makes Island Debut as Ugljan Welcomes First Premium Hotel

A new chapter begins for Croatian island tourism as Hilton opens its first outpost on Ugljan, redefining the region’s place on the international map

In the tranquil town of Preko on Ugljan island, a significant milestone in Croatian tourism has been quietly but confidently unveiled: the first Hilton-branded hotel on any of the country’s islands.

The Curio Collection by Hilton, a sleek four-plus-star retreat with 65 rooms, wellness facilities, and conference space, promises year-round employment for around 50 locals.

Minister of Tourism and Sport Tonči Glavina, who opened the hotel, hailed it as proof of Croatia’s commitment to balanced regional growth, calling it a “major leap for island tourism”.

Backed by €5m from Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and €13m from HOK Insurance, the hotel positions Ugljan firmly in the premium segment of global travel.

While Croatia navigates a delicate season with price-sensitive visitors, Hilton’s arrival signals hope — a blend of high-end hospitality and local authenticity, poised to reshape both perception and prosperity on this Adriatic gem.
