This prestigious acknowledgement follows the Croatian nomination of this practice to the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The awarding of the charters is a gesture of appreciation for the dedication of those who have actively promoted and passed down this esteemed tradition to future generations. The ceremony, hosted by Djakovo city and the Ministry of Culture and Media, celebrated this significant achievement.
Distinguished guests at the event included Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Agriculture Minister Marija Vuckovic, and Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek, who presented the charters. Prime Minister Plenkovic highlighted the importance of Lipizzaner horse breeding as an integral part of Croatian cultural identity. He noted its inclusion in the national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2017, and emphasized the multinational effort that led to its recognition by UNESCO. This achievement not only showcases Croatia’s rich culture but also brings a responsibility to continue preserving this heritage.
Plenkovic also remarked on the significant contribution of the Stud Farm to Djakovo’s community, assuring continued government support for the farms, related projects, and infrastructure. He expressed optimism that this new UNESCO listing would attract more visitors to Slavonia, enhancing the region’s reputation and encouraging tourism to Djakovo.
