The testing covered the Serbian section of the railway and was carried out to assess the infrastructure and technical systems ahead of the start of regular international services. The upgraded line is designed to significantly reduce travel times between the two capitals and improve rail connectivity between Serbia and Hungary.
The Budapest–Belgrade railway forms part of a wider transport corridor linking Central Europe with the Balkans and is expected to strengthen passenger and freight connections between the two countries.
Serbia has been upgrading its section of the route as part of efforts to modernise its railway network and expand high-speed rail.
The successful test represents an important milestone before the full launch of services. Once operational, the high-speed connection is expected to provide passengers with a faster alternative for travelling between Belgrade and Budapest while further strengthening transport links between Serbia and the European Union.
