Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs hosted Stephan Klement, the European Union Special Envoy for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament, for talks focused on strengthening cooperation in the areas of international security, arms control and non-proliferation.
During the meeting, Albanian officials highlighted the country’s continued progress in implementing policies related to non-proliferation, disarmament and export controls, emphasizing that these efforts reflect Albania’s firm commitment to the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).
Both sides also discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation on international security challenges, with Tirana reaffirming its full alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy.
Albanian representatives stressed that the country remains committed to supporting international efforts aimed at preventing the spread of weapons, strengthening arms control mechanisms and promoting global stability.
The visit comes as Albania continues to position itself as one of the Western Balkans’ most closely aligned EU candidate countries on foreign policy matters. Brussels has repeatedly noted that Albania maintains one of the highest rates of alignment with EU foreign policy positions, including sanctions, security initiatives and diplomatic actions.
Concluding the meeting, Albanian officials described the country as a reliable and trusted partner of the European Union, reaffirming their commitment to contributing actively to peace, international security and a rules-based international order as Albania continues its path toward full EU membership.
