Serbia has signed a contract with Spanish manufacturer CAF for the delivery of 30 new trains for the BG Voz commuter rail system, marking a significant step toward upgrading public transport in Belgrade. The agreement is expected to enhance capacity, reliability and overall service quality on one of the capital’s key urban transit networks.
The new trains will be used to modernise existing lines and support the planned expansion of the BG Voz system, which plays an increasingly important role in easing traffic congestion in Belgrade.
Authorities see the investment as part of a broader effort to improve sustainable mobility and align urban transport infrastructure with growing demand.
The deal reflects Serbia’s continued focus on rail development, with modern rolling stock seen as essential for increasing efficiency and attracting more passengers to public transport. Once delivered, the trains are expected to significantly improve daily commuting conditions while contributing to the long-term development of the city’s transport network.
