Young Croatian swimmer Jere Hribar clinched gold in the 50-metre freestyle at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, touching the wall at 20.70 seconds — a time he astonishingly recorded three times during the competition.
Hribar edged out France’s Maxime Grousset by 0.11 s, while Ukraine’s Nikita Sheremet shared second place and also set a new world junior record with 20.81 s.
With this win, Hribar capped a historic week for Croatia — adding to his silver in the 100 m freestyle and bronze in the men’s 4 × 50 m relay. It’s the country’s first men’s European swimming gold since 2009, and a landmark moment for Croatian swimming after a long drought at senior-level meets.
