Serbia to Develop 1 GW Solar Power Project with Hyundai and UGT Renewables

The Government of Serbia has announced plans to develop a 1 GW solar power project, including a 200 MW battery energy storage system

Hyundai Engineering and UGT Renewables have been selected as strategic partners for the project, which will see the installation of six large-scale solar power plants. The facilities, once completed, will be handed over to state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which is also funding the development of the project’s documentation.

The project is part of Serbia’s ongoing efforts to boost its renewable energy capacity, with a consortium of Hyundai Engineering and UGT Renewables tasked with overseeing the development

The special purpose spatial plan will be produced by the Agency for Spatial and Urban Planning, ensuring that all necessary guidelines are met for the construction and operation of the solar plants.

The consortium was selected last year, with the facilities expected to have a combined nameplate capacity of 1.2 GW. The battery system will have a total operating power of at least 200 MW and a storage capacity of 400 MWh.
