New Bar–Ancona Ferry Line Strengthens Montenegro–Italy Ties

Bar–Ancona link is Montenegro’s fourth new maritime route this season, deepening regional integration across the Adriatic

Montenegro has launched a vital maritime route between the port of Bar and Ancona, Italy, reinforcing its strategic commitment to regional transport and cross-Adriatic cooperation.

The new ferry service, set to operate two to three times weekly until mid-September, is the fourth maritime line established this season.

At the launch ceremony, Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović said the opening of new lines demonstrated the government’s dedication to expanding maritime infrastructure and improving regional ties.

He emphasised that strengthening sea connectivity is central not only to local communities but to the broader Montenegrin economy.

The Bar–Ancona route joins newly launched links between Bar and Bari, as well as Budva–Dubrovnik and Kotor–Dubrovnik.

While some schedule adjustments are expected in July due to challenges faced by operator Jadrolinija, officials remain optimistic.

Boris Mihailović, CEO of Barska Plovidba, noted that the renewed Ancona route had already attracted high passenger and freight interest, signalling growing demand for cross-Adriatic travel and trade.
