First Robot-Created Artwork Sells for Over $1 Million at Auction

The first artwork created by a humanoid robot artist with artificial intelligence (AI) has sold at auction for $1.32 million

The piece, a 2.2-meter portrait of British mathematician and computer science pioneer Alan Turing titled “A.I. God,” was sold at Sotheby’s in London to an anonymous buyer after 27 bids.

“This record-breaking sale for the first work by a humanoid robot artist to go to auction marks a milestone in modern and contemporary art history and reflects the growing intersection of AI technology and the global art market,” the auction house stated.

The robot, known as Ai-DA, resembles a young woman with short black hair and completed a series of 15 paintings in just eight hours, with only one going up for auction.
