First Public Granting Of Croatian Citizenship Held In Serbia

Ceremony marks a new step in outreach to Croats abroad

The first public ceremony for granting citizenship of Croatia was held in Subotica, marking a symbolic step in strengthening ties with Croats living outside the country. The event highlighted efforts to support members of the Croatian community abroad who are eligible for citizenship.

The ceremony brought together new citizens and officials, emphasising the importance of maintaining cultural and national connections with Croatian communities in neighbouring countries.

Authorities say the initiative aims to simplify procedures and encourage members of the diaspora to formalise their status.

Officials noted that granting citizenship to members of the Croatian community abroad strengthens cultural ties and reinforces the relationship between Croatia and its diaspora.
