Chinese Embassy Reception Marks Historic Anniversary in Zagreb

Soft diplomacy blends remembrance with strategic outreach

The Chinese Embassy in Croatia hosted a reception in Zagreb to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japanese aggression and fascism in World War II.

The event gathered diplomats, officials, and cultural figures, with former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić among the guests. Speeches highlighted the importance of preserving peace, mutual respect, and strengthening global cooperation in turbulent times.

For China, the reception was more than a commemoration — it was also a gesture of soft diplomacy, reinforcing its presence in Southeast Europe.

As Beijing’s influence grows across the Adria region, such events increasingly serve as both historical remembrance and strategic outreach.
