The Czech Republic has reiterated its strong political support for Montenegro’s European Union accession, with representatives from across the Czech political spectrum expressing their commitment to seeing the country complete its membership negotiations as quickly as possible.
During an official visit to Prague, Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with members of the Czech Chamber of Deputies led by the chairs of the European Affairs Committees, Petr Sokol and Jan Schiller. Czech officials stressed that all major political actors in the country support Montenegro’s EU ambitions and praised the progress achieved in its reform agenda.
Prime Minister Spajić thanked the Czech Republic for its consistent support, describing the country as an important partner within NATO and expressing optimism about future cooperation as fellow EU member states. The discussions also focused on strengthening border security ahead of Montenegro’s eventual accession, with Spajić highlighting the government’s efforts to reinforce the country’s security sector and prepare for protecting the EU’s external borders.
The meeting also addressed the remaining challenges in Montenegro’s accession process, including foreign malign influence and reforms that need to be completed by the end of the year. Both sides concluded that the broad political consensus in the Czech Republic in favour of Montenegro’s EU membership provides strong momentum for the successful completion of the accession negotiations.
