EU Sees Nearly 50% Increase in Electric Car Registrations in One Year

The European Union has witnessed a remarkable surge in the number of electric cars, with registrations increasing by nearly 50% in just one year

In the past year alone, 1.5 million new battery-only cars were registered, pushing the total number of electric vehicles in the EU to over 4.5 million.

This 48.5% rise compared to 2022 underscores the rapid expansion of the electric vehicle market.

To put this growth into perspective, just six years ago, electric cars accounted for only about 1% of new registrations

Countries leading the charge include Denmark, where 7.1% of all cars are electric, followed by Sweden at 5.9%, Luxembourg at 5.1%, and the Netherlands at 5%, as reported by Eurostat.

These figures highlight the significant strides being made in the adoption of electric vehicles across the EU.
