DS Smith Expands Eastern European Reach with Bosis Acquisition

DS Smith, a leader in sustainable packaging, has enhanced its market presence in Eastern Europe through the strategic acquisition of Serbian packaging firm Bosis doo

In a move to bolster its position in the Eastern European market, DS Smith, the UK-based sustainable packaging giant, has acquired Serbian packaging firm Bosis doo. The acquisition marks a significant step for DS Smith in expanding its footprint in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, where Bosis doo holds a strong presence.

DS Smith’s strategy focuses heavily on replacing plastic in packaging, a goal that has seen the company eliminate over 762 million units of plastic since March 2020. The merger with Bosis doo is expected to enhance this initiative, leveraging the combined expertise of both entities to further innovate in sustainable packaging solutions.

The deal is part of DS Smith’s broader ambition to strengthen its market position in Eastern Europe. With this acquisition, DS Smith’s regional network will encompass over 30 box plants and related facilities, providing employment for more than 7,000 individuals.

The transaction was spearheaded by Senior Partner Miloš Jakovljević, alongside Senior Associate Marko Ćulafić and Associate Ljubica Stojanović, who guided DS Smith through the acquisition process. The merger clearance was secured under the guidance of the competition team led by Partner Bojan Vučković and Senior Associate Mladen Vujić, with Senior Associate Milorad Gajić managing the real estate aspects. This strategic expansion not only signifies DS Smith’s growth trajectory but also its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the packaging industry.
