Split Welcomes the Sailing Elite

Star World Championship returns to Croatia with 107 crews competing in the Adriatic

The city of Split has become the centre of the sailing world as the 2025 Star World Championship officially opened on 7 September. Over 100 teams from 20 countries, including former world champions and Olympic medallists, are taking part in the prestigious regatta.

Legends such as John Kostecki (USA), Diego Negri (Italy) and Mateusz Kusznierewicz (Poland) are competing in waters where Croatia has long nurtured a proud maritime tradition.

Local sailors are eager to test themselves against global rivals, adding to the buzz on the Riva promenade.

The championship is more than sport—it’s also a major event for the city and tourism sector. Split is showcasing itself as an international sailing hub, with the Adriatic once again proving to be a stage where global competition meets Mediterranean lifestyle.
