Serbia: PIO Fund Announces New Retirement Age For Women

Women will be able to retire at 64 years with at least 15 years of work experience, while men’s conditions remain unchanged

The Republic Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIO) announced that starting January 1, 2026, women in Serbia will be eligible for retirement at 64 years of age with a minimum of 15 years of insurance contributions. Men’s retirement conditions remain unchanged, allowing them to retire at 65 years with at least 15 years of contributions.

The retirement age for women will gradually increase by two months each year until 2032, when it will equalize with men’s retirement conditions.

Regardless of age, the requirement for both men and women to qualify for full retirement is 45 years of contributions.

Employees wishing to retire under the current year’s conditions must terminate their employment by December 30, 2025, and submit their retirement application by December 31, either in person at PIO offices, via the online e-Šalter service on the PIO website, or by registered mail. Applications submitted from January 1 onwards will follow the conditions valid for the new year.
