Rijeka Announces Carnival Season 2026

Rijeka is preparing for another vibrant carnival season as organisers officially unveiled the Rijeka Carnival 2026, one of Croatia’s most distinctive and internationally recognised cultural events.

Now in its 43rd edition, the carnival once again highlights Rijeka’s reputation as a city of openness, creativity and strong local identity, where tradition and contemporary expression meet.

The carnival season will begin in mid-January with traditional events and the ceremonial handover of the city keys to carnival representatives.

The programme will peak with two flagship events: the Children’s Carnival Parade at the end of January and the International Carnival Parade in mid-February, expected to gather thousands of participants and more than a hundred groups from Croatia and abroad.

Alongside the main parades, the Rijeka Carnival will offer a rich programme of accompanying events, including themed parties, sports activities and cultural happenings across the city. Under the slogan “Be What You Want”, the 2026 edition invites residents and visitors alike to embrace imagination, freedom and the unique spirit that turns Rijeka into a stage for one of the most colorful carnival celebrations in the region.
