Montenegro Charts New Route

A €55,200 project to reshape the road from Podgorica to Danilovgrad

Montenegro is taking a decisive step toward modernising its transport infrastructure with plans for a new expressway connecting Podgorica and Danilovgrad.

The national road authority, Monteput, has awarded the contract for the project to a joint venture between international consultancy Louis Berger and local firm Decom Group, with Geostandard as subcontractor.

Valued at €55,200 excluding VAT, the contract marks the beginning of a transport upgrade poised to unlock smoother, safer travel through central Montenegro.

The route will form a vital link between key regional centres and major corridors, including the Bar-Boljare motorway and the Adriatic-Ionian highway.

With a deadline of four months from contract signing, the initiative reflects a broader ambition: to streamline internal mobility and better integrate Montenegro’s road network with European routes.

Once realised, the expressway is expected to dramatically improve access between Nikšić, Danilovgrad, and the capital — a move that could spark economic momentum far beyond the roadside.
