Mercator’s Emba Joins Austria’s Agrana Group

Cross-border integration reshapes regional food industry

Slovenian food producer Mercator Emba will now operate under the umbrella of Austria’s Agrana Group, one of Europe’s largest agribusiness companies. The deal extends Agrana’s reach in Southeastern Europe while giving Emba access to new research, technology, and distribution muscle.

For consumers, the integration promises a wider range of products and innovation in healthier and more sustainable categories.

For the companies, it offers resilience against cost pressures, volatile supply chains, and shifting consumer tastes.

This move reflects a broader pattern in the Adria food industry: local producers are increasingly drawn into cross-border value chains, ensuring competitiveness in global markets while keeping the distinct identity of regional brands alive.
