Croatian Classic Vegeta Crowned Germany’s Top Spice Brand

From a Yugoslav lab to German pantries: Vegeta conquers Europe’s toughest market

In a striking win for regional heritage brands, Croatian seasoning icon Vegeta has been named Top-Marke 2025 in Germany—Europe’s most competitive consumer market.

The award, granted by Lebensmittel Zeitung and based on rigorous consumer data from over 30,000 German households, places Vegeta at the top of the spice category, ahead of more than 5,000 brands.

Created in 1959 in the Podravka labs by professor Zlata Bartl’s team, the blend of salt, spices, and dried vegetables has become a staple in kitchens across 60+ countries.

This latest accolade highlights not just Vegeta’s nostalgic appeal, but its continued relevance in an era of fast-changing culinary tastes.

Podravka’s executive Krunoslav Bešvir stated that recognition from consumers in Germany, where quality expectations are exceptionally high, was particularly meaningful.

As the brand marks over 65 years of existence, its rising success signals a potent message: Central European food culture has a firm and flavourful seat at the global table.
