Croatia And United States Affirm Strong Defence Partnership

New U.S. Ambassador meets Croatian defence officials, emphasising security cooperation

Croatia and the United States reaffirmed their strong defence partnership during the first official meeting between Croatia’s Defence Minister Ivan Anušić and newly appointed U.S. Ambassador Nicole McGraw. Discussions focused on shared security priorities, regional stability, and ongoing military cooperation within NATO.

Officials highlighted Croatia’s continued modernisation efforts, including the acquisition of Bradley fighting vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters, and the planned 2028 delivery of HIMARS systems.

Both sides also underscored their commitment to supporting Ukraine and addressing current geopolitical challenges in Southeast Europe.

The meeting reinforced the ambition to deepen strategic ties, with Croatia aiming to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. Both delegations expressed readiness to expand dialogue and cooperation as a cornerstone of regional and transatlantic security.
