Andrija Mandić Holds Talks with European Parliament’s AFET Committee

President of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić, met with the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), led by Chair David McAllister.

Mandić thanked McAllister for his long-standing support of Montenegro’s European path, noting that the country aims to become the 28th EU member by 2028, with negotiations expected to conclude by the end of 2026. He highlighted that nearly 400 laws have been adopted in this parliamentary term, around 170 aligned with EU legislation, and that the Parliament will remain in continuous session to complete remaining obligations.

Mandić also announced the opening of a European Parliamentary Center in June to strengthen cooperation with the European Parliament and emphasized the appointment of a parliamentary representative in Brussels to enhance direct communication with EU institutions.

He stressed that the Parliament is the main driver of Montenegro’s European path and highlighted the fight against organized crime and strengthening judicial independence as key challenges.

MEPs welcomed Montenegro’s progress, noting that the final stages of EU accession negotiations are the most demanding. They praised the Parliament’s commitment and continuous work, saying it sends a strong signal of political will to accelerate reforms.
