Amer Kapetanovic Takes the Helm of the Regional Cooperation Council

Veteran diplomat aims to strengthen regional collaboration and drive EU integration

Amer Kapetanovic, a seasoned diplomat with over 25 years of experience, has officially assumed the role of Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) as of 1 January 2025. His appointment was endorsed by the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) leaders during their summit in Skopje on June 13, 2024. 

Kapetanovic succeeds Majlinda Bregu, who led the RCC from January 2019 to December 2024. In his inaugural statement, Kapetanovic expressed his commitment to building upon the RCC’s achievements, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation and the preservation of diversity for the common good.

Prior to this appointment, Kapetanovic served as the Head of the Political Department at the RCC, contributing significantly to initiatives aimed at fostering regional integration and development. His extensive diplomatic career includes various high-ranking positions within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s foreign service. 

The RCC, established in 2008, plays a pivotal role in promoting mutual cooperation and European and Euro-Atlantic integration of South East Europe, focusing on areas such as economic and social development, energy and infrastructure, justice and home affairs, security cooperation, and building human capital. 

Under Kapetanovic’s leadership, the RCC is expected to continue its mission of enhancing regional collaboration, with a focus on implementing the Common Regional Market and advancing the region’s integration into the European Union.
