Albania Opens Key EU Negotiation Chapters

Brussels gives green light to transport and networks integration

Albania today officially advanced its EU accession process by opening four new chapters under Cluster 4: Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity. The move was confirmed at the sixth Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, marking one of the most significant steps in Tirana’s integration path this year.

Among the newly opened chapters are Chapter 14 (Transport Policy) and Chapter 21 (Trans-European Networks) — crucial for aligning Albania’s infrastructure and connectivity standards with those of the European Union.

The package also includes Chapter 15 (Energy) and Chapter 27 (Environment and Climate Change), underscoring the EU’s focus on green transition and sustainable growth across candidate states.

For Albania, the milestone strengthens momentum after years of slow progress, linking its domestic reforms to broader European priorities in mobility, energy, and environmental policy. With transport corridors and energy links central to the Adria region’s future, the opening of these chapters sends a strong signal that integration is not only political but also infrastructural and economic.
