Eight out of Ten Toys Imported to the EU Come from China

China continues to dominate the EU toy market, supplying 80% of all imported toys in 2023

In 2023, the European Union imported toys worth €6.5 billion from non-EU countries, €2 billion less than the previous year. Meanwhile, exports of toys from the EU amounted to €2.3 billion, just €200,000 less than in 2022.

According to Eurostat, China was the largest supplier of toys to the EU, accounting for 80% (€5.2 billion) of imports, followed by Vietnam with 6% (€367 million) and the United Kingdom with 2% (€150 million).

Germany received about one-fifth of the EU’s toy imports (18%), while France and the Netherlands accounted for 16% and 14%, respectively.

Three EU countries made up over half of toy exports outside the EU by value. The top export destination was the United Kingdom (30%, €694 million), followed by Switzerland (13%, €301 million) and the United States (10%, €233 million).

More than half of the toys exported from the EU to the rest of the world came from the Czech Republic (29%), Germany (19%), and Belgium (8%).
