Ursula von der Leyen Secures Second Term as European Commission President

Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected for a second five-year term as President of the European Commission, reaffirming her leadership at the helm of the EU’s executive branch

The European Parliament, consisting of 720 members, granted von der Leyen’s nomination with 401 votes in favor, 284 against, and 15 abstentions. The threshold for her reappointment was 361 votes, a margin she comfortably surpassed.

Von der Leyen, the first woman to lead the European Commission, has made clear that EU enlargement will be a cornerstone of her agenda
