United Group Powers Bulgaria’s Green Energy Future with €120 Million Investment

United Group has made an entry into the renewable energy sector with an initial €120 million investment in Bulgaria, marking a significant step in its regional operations.

The investment encompasses three solar power plants, one of which is already operational, and a large wind farm poised to become one of the few of its kind in the country.

Together, these projects are expected to generate approximately 310,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. By 2027, this output will cover 160% of the energy needs for United Group’s Bulgarian operations and 65% of the company’s total electricity consumption. The initiative not only advances the Group’s sustainability goals but also supports Bulgaria’s transition to green energy.

Since entering the Bulgarian market in 2020 with the acquisition of Vivacom, United Group has invested €2.5 billion in technology and innovation. This includes launching the country’s first commercial 5G network, now its largest, and introducing 10 GIGA optical networks and unlimited 5G mobile plans. These advancements have revolutionized digital connectivity, reaching 1.5 million households with FTTH networks and covering 91% of the population with 5G services.

The solar plants will utilize repurposed industrial land to minimize environmental impact, while the wind farm in northeastern Bulgaria will play a crucial role in the nation’s energy future. This green initiative underscores United Group’s commitment to both technological progress and sustainable development in the region.
