Prices Rise in State Nursing Homes Across Serbia

Private care homes remain significantly more expensive despite increases

Accommodation prices in state run nursing homes across Serbia have increased following new decisions by the competent authorities, affecting thousands of elderly residents and their families. The revised price lists apply to facilities within the public social welfare system and reflect higher operational costs, including food, energy and staff expenses.

Although the increase has sparked concern among users, state homes remain more affordable compared to private facilities.

Monthly fees in private nursing homes are often substantially higher, depending on the city, type of accommodation and level of medical and personal care provided. In larger urban centers in particular, private home prices can significantly exceed the pensions of average retirees.

Experts point out that demand for elderly care is steadily rising due to demographic trends and population ageing. While authorities argue that the price adjustments are necessary to ensure financial sustainability and maintain service quality, families continue to face difficult decisions as they try to balance care needs with limited household budgets.
