North Macedonian Company Gives 4-Day Work Week a Try Starting 2026

Magnometal Becomes First Trader in the Western Balkans to Cut Hours Without Cutting Pay

Magnometal, a North Macedonian company specializing in construction and road infrastructure equipment, will introduce a four-day work week for all employees starting January 1, 2026 — with full salaries preserved. The management says the move aims to boost employee well-being, increase efficiency and position the company as a regional pioneer in modern work culture. Owner Radoslav Galić says the shorter week is expected to “strengthen team well-being and optimize operational productivity.”

As the first trading company in the Western Balkans to adopt this model, Magnometal hopes the pilot will showcase that work can be done “smarter, not longer.” The six-month trial will measure productivity, customer satisfaction and employee engagement, while ensuring uninterrupted service through on-call coverage. The company believes the shift will improve work-life balance, attract top talent and establish North Macedonia as a leader in innovative workplace practices.

Magnometal stresses that the initiative reflects a commitment to innovation not only in business, but also in how employees are treated. If successful, the pilot project could become a blueprint for similar transformations across the region.
