Italian Discount Giant Eurospin Sets Sights on Serbia

Italy’s answer to budget retail quietly prepares its Balkan debut

In a move that could reshape Serbia’s discount retail landscape, Italian giant Eurospin is laying the groundwork for its long-anticipated expansion into the country.

According to exclusive, albeit unofficial, information obtained by Retail Serbia, the company has already selected its first store locations.

Operating under the Eurospin EKO umbrella—responsible for the brand’s presence in Slovenia and Croatia—the retailer has begun quietly recruiting for its Serbian headquarters.

A slew of job postings, some involving extensive training stints in Italy and Croatia, points to a serious, structured entry plan. Training for Serbian staff reportedly began as early as late 2024.

Founded in 1993 by four Italian entrepreneurs, Eurospin has grown into a pan-European powerhouse with over 1,300 stores and €10 billion in annual revenue.

While the company has yet to formally announce its Serbian arrival, the groundwork suggests a launch is not far off.

Meanwhile, Carrefour’s franchise arm and at least one other Western European chain are also eyeing Serbia, setting the stage for fierce competition in the budget retail space.
