First Regional Electricity Exchange Launches in Southeastern Europe

Serbia, Slovenia, and Hungary unite electricity markets for greater efficiency and competitive prices

A landmark development in the region’s energy market has been achieved with the launch of the first regional electricity exchange, bringing together Serbia, Slovenia, and Hungary. The announcement was made by Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, during the Energy Community Ministerial Council meeting in Vienna.

“Our three countries have unified their electricity markets to improve trading efficiency, enhance energy availability for our citizens and businesses, and create conditions for more competitive prices,” Minister Đedović Handanović stated.

The newly formed regional electricity exchange operates under the ADEX group, which has successfully consolidated the Slovenian, Serbian, and Hungarian power exchanges—BSP, HUPX, and SEEPEX—under its ownership. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the development of a robust electricity market in this part of Europe.

According to Elektromreža Srbije, one of ADEX group’s founding members, this initiative not only strengthens regional cooperation but also paves the way for a more integrated and efficient energy market. It is expected to bolster energy security, enhance market liquidity, and foster price competitiveness across the participating countries.

The establishment of this regional exchange represents a strategic advancement in energy collaboration, setting a precedent for further integration in Southeastern Europe.
