Damien Sorrell New Head of EIB Western Balkans Hub

Damien Sorrell takes the lead in advancing EIB’s goals for the Western Balkans

The European Investment Bank (EIB Global) has named Damien Sorrell as the new Head of the Regional Hub for the Western Balkans.

Sorrell takes over from Alessandro Bragonzi, who will continue his work at the Bank’s headquarters. Under Sorrell’s leadership, the EIB aims to further its commitment to supporting the region’s transition to a low-carbon economy, advancing alignment with EU standards, and driving sustainable economic growth in the Western Balkans.

Sorrell’s career began in the project finance department at Linklaters LLP, after which he joined the EIB’s legal team, working on operations in Africa, MENA, and Asia. In 2019, he set up and managed the EIB’s Beirut office and later joined the financial inclusion team as a senior loan officer in 2022.

Holding both French and British nationality, Sorrell is a graduate of King’s College London with a Bachelor of Laws in English law, and the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne with a maîtrise in French law. He also earned a master’s degree in international relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
