From 22 to 24 April, Porto Montenegro will host the Adria Future Summit 2026, where a landmark Ministerial Energy Forum will take place as the first energy-focused event organised within the framework of the Berlin Process.
The forum comes at a significant moment for Montenegro, as the country advances in its European Union accession negotiations while simultaneously holding the presidency of the Berlin Process. Organised by the Montenegro Ministry of Energy and Mining in partnership with the Adria Future Summit and supported by the Energy Community Secretariat, the gathering will bring together energy ministers from Western Balkan countries and EU member states, alongside senior representatives of European institutions, international financial organisations and investors from Europe and the Gulf region.
The forum will serve as a high-level platform for dialogue on electricity market integration, strengthening energy security, developing strategic infrastructure and enhancing the long-term resilience of Southeast Europe’s energy system. Its objective is to define concrete steps toward deeper regional connectivity and a more stable and sustainable energy framework.
Montenegro’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, said the energy transition represents both a major opportunity and a strategic challenge for the region.
“Montenegro strongly supports accelerated integration of the regional electricity market with the European market, as this is a prerequisite for greater security of supply, more stable prices and the attraction of new investments,” he noted. “Through reforms, infrastructure modernisation and investment in renewable energy, our goal is to ensure the long-term resilience of the system. Montenegro’s presidency of the Berlin Process gives us an additional responsibility to initiate concrete regional projects and strengthen cooperation among Western Balkan countries.”
Biljana Braithwaite, founder and director of the Adria Future Summit, emphasised the importance of dialogue between governments, investors and international partners.
“At a time when Montenegro is intensifying its EU integration efforts and leading the Berlin Process, it is crucial to create space for strategic discussions between public and private sector leaders,” she said. “The Adria Future Summit is not just a conference but a platform for concrete initiatives, partnerships and investments that can accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the region’s economic competitiveness.”
The Ministerial Energy Forum is expected to further underline Montenegro’s commitment to building a secure, interconnected and sustainable energy system across Southeast Europe through European integration and regional cooperation.
