Via Dinarica Recognised Among World’s Top Hiking Trails by National Geographic

The Via Dinarica hiking trail has been included in National Geographic’s prestigious book 100 Hikes of a Lifetime, placing the region among the world’s most remarkable outdoor destinations.

The recognition highlights its unique combination of pristine nature, cultural heritage and cross-border cooperation. Via Dinarica is a long-distance hiking trail running through the Dinaric Alps across several Western Balkan countries, with “via” meaning “path” or “route.”

Running through several countries, the trail has become a flagship example of sustainable tourism development in Southeast Europe, attracting hikers and adventure travelers from around the globe.

Its inclusion in the National Geographic publication further strengthens the region’s visibility on the international tourism map.

The recognition is expected to boost interest in nature-based tourism and support local communities along the route, reinforcing the path’s role as both an environmental and economic asset for the Western Balkans.
