In 2023, pasta production in the European Union reached an impressive 6.2 million tons, valued at €8.9 billion. Italy, the undisputed leader, contributed a staggering 4.2 million tons, or 68% of the total, valued at €6.2 billion, securing 70% of the EU’s pasta market share.
Close on its heels were Spain and France, producing half a million and 260,000 tons, respectively.
Nearly 2.7 million tons of pasta left EU borders last year, with the majority remaining within Europe. Italy, once again, led exports with 2 million tons, accounting for 76% of the EU’s total.
Key external markets included the UK and the USA, which together took nearly half a million tons, reflecting the unyielding international appetite for Italian-made pasta.
Meanwhile, Germany and France were the EU’s largest pasta importers, underscoring the product’s enduring appeal across Europe.
