Checkmate: Aleksandar Indjić Claims European Chess Crown

Serbian won the title at tournament in Petrovac, Montenegro, suceeding another fellow Serbian

Grandmaster Aleksandar Indjić has emerged as Europe’s new chess champion, the Chess Federation of Serbia confirmed.

Indjić dominated the tournament in Petrovac, Montenegro, with seven wins and four draws across 11 matches, amassing nine points to secure the title. 

Remarkably, he began the competition ranked 33rd, making his rise to the top even more impressive

The championship, held from 7 to 19 November, brought together 388 players from 42 European chess federations. 

Serbia’s strong tradition in chess continues, with Indjić succeeding fellow national team member Aleksandar Saran, the previous champion. A total of 24 Serbian players competed in the event.
