Coldwave Breaks the Heat, Brings Mixed Relief

Europe’s scorching summer gives way to below-average chill across the Adria region

After weeks of relentless heat, the Adria region is now under the grip of a coldwave. A deep Atlantic trough sweeping across Europe has pushed temperatures 4 to 8 °C below seasonal norms, offering welcome relief—but also raising fresh challenges.

From Slovenia to North Macedonia, sudden shifts are testing power grids, disrupting tourist itineraries, and increasing the risk of flash floods after intense storms.

While the drop eases fire risks and heat stress, infrastructure and agriculture remain vulnerable to these rapid atmospheric swings—a reminder that climate extremes are no longer seasonal, but structural.
