China-backed Solar Project Powers Croatia

A transformative energy project in Croatia’s Dalmatian region aims to harness the sun and wind, promising cleaner, greener power for thousands of households.

In a significant leap for Croatia’s renewable energy ambitions, a consortium of two Chinese companies has been awarded the contract to build and operate the 99 MWp Korlat solar power plant.

The €59.96 million project is slated for completion by April 2028 and will be a key part of a larger energy hub in northern Dalmatia, which also includes the 58 MW wind farm of the same name.

The project is backed by a €31.6 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), highlighting the region’s commitment to sustainable energy development.

Once operational, Korlat’s solar panels will generate 165 million kWh annually, enough to power approximately 50,000 households.

Plans are also in place for energy storage and an additional 40 MW solar array, bolstering Croatia’s green credentials while contributing to its broader energy transition.
